Resident Firefighter Program
Grand Fire Protection District No. 1 is excited to introduce you to our resident firefighter program. The primary intent of the program is to increase resources to meet the growing needs of the Fire District and to provide a positive experience, opportunity and training to young men and women interested in pursuing a career in the fire service.
HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
Resident Firefighters are individuals who are selected to take residency within one of Grand Fire Protection District No. 1 facilities. The resident firefighter will be required to become a member of the Volunteer Fire Department. The Resident Firefighter will be provided living accommodations and basic utilities at no cost and will be expected to fill on duty station shifts in return. Residents are required to fill 2 shifts per week of 8 hours each. Outside employment will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age
- Proper documentation to complete I-9 and be employed in the USA
- High School diploma or GED
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Maintain active volunteer Fire Department status and be in good standing
- A post offer physical examination and/or drug screen if required
- Upon acceptance, pass a CBI or equivalent background check if required
- Pass a physical agility exam
- Must be available for a minimum of 24 hours to a maximum of 36 hours of duty per week
- Provide a minimum of one year commitment to the program, unless otherwise approved by the Fire Chief
- Obtain a Colorado Firefighter I designation within one year
- Obtain CPR and basic first aid certification
