Generally, Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm, but flexible, with evenings/weekends as needed

Compensation:

$64,000 - $76,000 / year (Pending Qualifications)

General Description of Work  

The Training Officer, who will also serve as the Resident/Volunteer Coordinator, is a member of the career staff of the department and reports to the Assistant Chief of Operations.  This position participates in the day-to-day operations of the department, including responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance; assuming command; managing emergency incident operations effectively; working closely with the volunteer staff to promote good relations and effective operations of the department. The TO/RVC is responsible for maintaining the district training program, as well as participating in recruitment and retention efforts, including but not limited to marketing, recruitment nights, career fairs, applicant processing, interviews, and volunteer firefighter “on-boarding” and development.  Additionally, the TO/RVC assists with apparatus and equipment maintenance. This Training Officer works with the Assistant Chief of Operations to help develop schedules and presents department training programs that are current and meet the needs of the department and community needs. The Training Officer will also help design programs that meet State, Federal standards, as well as other nationally recognized criteria and requirements.  The Training Officer will represent the department as a member of applicable associations and groups related to assigned duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications and Skills

 Associate of Science degree in a fire-related field preferred

  • High School Diploma or GED is required with additional secondary education and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible fire-related experience
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record
  • CDFPC and/or IFSAC Firefighter II/ Hazmat Ops Certification
  • CDFPC and/or IFSAC Fire Instructor I Certification
  • CDFPC and/or IFSAC Fire Officer I Certification
  • CDFPC and /or IFSAC Driver/ Operator or D/O Pumper
  • NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
  • NWCG Firefighter Type 2 required, Type 1 or Single Resource preferred
  • Computer literate with experience with Microsoft products and fire record management software
  • Residence within Grand County 

Job Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Responsible for all aspects of the administration and operation of the District’s Training Program
  • Help maintain an Annual Training Schedule
  • Maintain Department Training Standards for Volunteer, Resident and Wildland Firefighters
  • Develop and maintain Department Training Manuals as applicable
  • Maintain training records for all Volunteers and Career Staff using District records management software
  • Develop and maintain a District-wide Driver/Operator Training Program
  • Coordinate and work with the Grand County Training Officers Association
  • Schedule and present Firefighter I Certification Academy and Task Book sessions as necessary, meeting the needs of the department
  • Develop, schedule and monitor a New Volunteer Orientation Program
  • Ensure all personnel are updated annually on District SOGs
  • Serve as the District liaison with other emergency service providers with respect to training matters and activities

·         Assist with and ensure that all apparatus and equipment are maintained in a condition ready for immediate emergency response

·         Work with mechanics, service shops, dealers, and manufacturers to provide a complete preventive maintenance program, and personally deal with emergency repairs

·         Help Oversee annual testing of apparatus pumps, aerial devices and hose

·         Help Oversee annual and quarterly certification of breathing air compressor and system

·         Provide input into the apparatus and equipment replacement schedules

·         Maintain maintenance records on all apparatus and equipment using Emergency Reporting program

·         Assist with the management and supervision of the Resident Firefighter Program

·         Function as a line officer, engineer or Incident Commander as needed on alarm response and fire suppression activities in District or as part of Mutual or Regional Aid as needed

·         Works with Wildland Coordinator and participates in District Wildland Program, including local and regional response, national assignments and mitigation work as necessary

·         Works with the Assistant Chief of Operations to ensure resident training needs and staffing are met
