Hot Works Permits for Fire Restrictions
During Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, many activites related to construction, demolition, and fabrication in outdoors environments become illegal without permitting. Activities sucha as welding, grinding, blasting and even metal cutting can produce sparks or excess heat that can be an ignition source for the vegatation and fuels nearby.
Should one of these activites be critical to your operation or the completion of your project, Grand Fire can work with you or your staff or contractors to identify mitigation measures and determine if there is a safe way to continue working.
The Owner/ Contractor/ Project Manager should assess their needs and their site and prepare a mitigation plan that includes at a minimum:
- Adequate Extinguishment equipment (i.e. 2A/20BC extinguisher, Shovels, clean dirt supplied water)
- Site cleared of vegetation where any sparks or slag may fall (min. 3-foot buffer)
- Proper usage of fire proof mats/curtains where vegetation clearing is not possible.
- Remove all other flammable or combustibles in area where sparks or slag may fall.
- Maintain “water truck” at sight while working. (150 gallons w/ pump)
- Ensuring that no Red Flag or Fire Weather Watch is in effect for the area. This status is available from: https://www.weather.gov/bou/
- If necessary, coordinate with Fire District for a standby during hot work operations.
If you believe your project qualifies for permitting and you can put appropriate mitigation steps in place, please fill out a permit application and we'll be in contact during business hours, or feel free to reach out with questions at 970-887-3380. Permit fees will apply ($275).
